How Feed Blackpool Together Brings Hospitality and Community Together

Not everyone in Blackpool can afford regular, nutritious meals, and campaigns like Feed Blackpool Together help connect the town’s hospitality sector with the community it serves. During Blackpool Restaurant Week 2026, we are highlighting the work of this campaign, led by The BIG FOOD Project.

The BIG FOOD Project is Blackpool’s food redistribution charity, working with more than 120 community partners across the town, including food banks, schools, and community cafés.

Each week, it provides the equivalent of around 17,500 meals, supporting children, families, older people, and working residents whose circumstances make it difficult to put food on the table. By rescuing surplus food, the charity also reduces food waste and prevents hundreds of thousands of kilograms of CO₂ from entering the atmosphere each year.

As part of its work, Feed Blackpool Together has developed initiatives to involve the town’s hospitality sector. One option is a voluntary £1-on-the-bill donation scheme, which allows customers to contribute to the project while dining out. Every £1 helps provide roughly two meals or the cost of feeding a child for a day. Participation is entirely optional, and venues interested in learning more can speak directly with The BIG FOOD Project.

There are also other ways hospitality businesses can get involved. Some donate surplus food, others help raise awareness with staff and customers, or arrange visits to The BIG FOOD Project’s warehouse to see the work in action. The Feed Blackpool Together campaign demonstrates how Blackpool’s thriving hospitality sector can play a wider role in the community, both as an employer and as a supporter of local wellbeing.

Venues and members of the public who want to find out more about Feed Blackpool Together or explore ways to get involved can contact Claire Powell, Chief Executive of The BIG FOOD Project, who is also happy to offer behind the scenes tours of the warehouse.
